- Social graph provider
- Facebook, MySpace, Orkut, Hi5, etc... A social graph provider has at least 2 elements, user profiles and user connections (friends).
- Social application server
- Ringside, or a middleware that provides a layer between social graph providers and applications to extend functionality of an application via widgets and metrics. The widgets extend the social graph of an application to wherever they are placed.
- Static sites
- Websites that don't provide a social graph. They may even be HTML files not generated by a backend.
- Widget
- Application functionality usually contained within an iframe, but sometimes a div overwritten by javascript. The point is to bring application functionality to sites running outside of a platform, and often without a social graph.
